Live from Philly!
Once again, “it’s been a long time”.
Sorry for the radio silence. I admit I’m not the best at this sort of thing. Luckily I’ve recently gained a partner who’s better at it and it helps to have someone checking in regularly (more on that).
…and I suppose I’ve had more than a few things to talk about. …a bottleneck even. I did a couple covers, continuing to slowly work on Oz and commissions (I promise), moved into a new place/studio, started a business with a friend.
So let’s talk about it.
Cover Story
I squeezed in a couple covers last month to keep the lights on. First was for this BRZRKR comic. Last I heard of BRZRKR was when the first series kickstarted a few years back. When I heard Keanu Reeves was kickstarting a comic my first thought was, wtf Keanu need kickstarter for a comic? If I was Keanu I’d fund it out of my pocket cash! Then I thought, “it’s great PR and marketing”. …and they need it! I’ve got more followers than their IG. Which is too bad because part of the reason I did the cover was to vamp their followers 😆
Not sure what this one’s like on the inside, but Keanu’s great.
What’s your favorite Keanu performance? Two of my favorites are his performance in Frier’s Dangerous Liaisons, and his turn as Jonathan Harker in Francis Ford Coppola’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
The second was for Joe Palmer’s Destination Kill #1 out from Oni.
Joe Palmer, I believe, is among our cohort here on Patreon or Stubsack. A very talented cartoonist; I was happy to contribute to the launch of his comic. It’s a fun ride. Strangelu enough, it’s not up on teh Oni site yet, but be sure to keep an eye out for it.
I’ll do process posts for both on Patreon and Skubscat in the coming weeks. I promise.
— if you even care!
More Oz progress coming in early March.
…culture!
I’ve been slowly reading the Zwirner books collection of Larry Neal essays. I have a lot of thoughts. I think I’ll collect them in an essay. I need time for them to marinate. Thinking about them in relation to Arthur Jafa’s joint at the MoMA. …and the BLKNWS film. Maybe it will show up in LAAB. 🤔
Speaking of the BLKNWS, films I saw that had a powerful effect on me… Bi Gan’s Resurrection was pretty high up on the list. Also Andrea Arnold’s Red Road left me with complicated feelings. And A New Love in Tokyo struck me like Borden’s Working Girls.
NGL, I feel guilty for being absent but also tired. I have a train trip tomorrow. I’ll post again in the next couple days.
